  Work Details
‘Their feet should not be on anything solid’ was devised by Hayley Newman and performed by Brighton based folk band Hamilton Yarns, who were instructed to only play when they were lifted off the ground. The band played both together and individually, silently marking time when they weren’t playing, re-entering the musical refrain when lifted off the ground. The piece was unrehearsed and its success was – largely – down to the participation of the audience and their will to make the concert work. I would have been happy with a shambolic/anarchic muddle, but that lack of control was taken out of my hands and by the audience – who replaced it with order.
